Aliya Cheyanne:

Hey friend, welcome back to the show. So today I wanna talk about how you talk to yourself and why it matters. How you talk to yourself matters, friends. What you speak over yourself you make a reality. If you're constantly saying negative things about yourself or your situation, your words have power. If you're constantly saying positive things about yourself and your situation, your words have power. If you're constantly saying positive things about yourself and your situation, your words have power. In either case, your words have power and words are spells. You can either use them for your highest good or, in the words of Ebeneezer Moore, ebeneez more for your ashiest self.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Now, I know the power of my tongue, so I do my best to be mindful. Unfortunately, I'm human and imperfect, so sometimes that shit goes out of the window when I'm upset or feeling doubtful. But in my day-to-day I watch how I speak over myself, my own life and future, and I watch how the people around me, the people I care about, speak over me, and themselves and the people who love me do the same. So I'll share an example. There's a huge creative branding and marketing conference and festival that happens every summer overseas. It's a big deal. It's gotten bigger and bigger the last few years and, might I add, a bit more black and a bit more brown, which to me is a great thing. Anyway, it's very expensive to attend, but it's a huge opportunity to network and meet folks in the creative, branding and marketing industry and it's a great opportunity to rub elbows with people who might otherwise be inaccessible, depending on your social or economic background. I learned recently that this conference provides scholarships for people to attend and have an all-expense-paid experience. So I decided to shoot my shot and apply. But even in applying, I had so much doubt in my mind that I almost counted myself out by missing the deadline. But because I had so much doubt in my mind that I almost counted myself out by missing the deadline, but because I had started my application before the deadline, I had a little grace period to finish it. So I did.

Aliya Cheyanne:

When I was talking to my grandmother about it, I was like you know, I really want to attend this conference. I think it would be a life-changing experience and it would be great, but they only select a very small number of people for it and I probably won't get it anyway. Just a very pessimistic mindset. And my grandmother corrected me immediately and was like what's wrong with you? Why would you say that? Believe that you're going to get it. I'm sure that you'll get it? And I was like you know what? You're right, I shouldn't speak negatively about my odds for being selected. You would think I learned my lesson in that moment, but I didn't, because a couple of days later, I was speaking to my reference for the application, someone who is a mentor to me in many ways and who has been to this festival and conference multiple times and even spoken on a huge stage there, and I was explaining my reasoning for wanting to go, and that I put my application in and that they only select a small number of people. So I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, but I want to let you know that I put you as my reference, so if they hit you up, please put in a good word for me. Basically, and she was like so you don't think you're going to get it, so you're telling the universe that you don't want it. Do you want it? And I was like yes, absolutely. So she said okay, then act like it and speak like it. You're going to get it. It's going to be great. You would be so wonderful there. I'm happy for you. It's yours. And in that moment I got it.

Aliya Cheyanne:

After now speaking negatively over the potential outcome twice and being told by people who care about me to stop doing that foolishness, I got it. I recognized that I needed to shift my mindset and my attitude and my heart posture toward the outcome. Instead of believing in the worst case scenario, I had to shift my mindset to the best case scenario and the best possible outcome. I had to stop thinking the way I was thinking so that I could think more positively about what could be possible. But I could think more positively about what could be possible. I had to be mindful of how I spoke to myself and over myself, as much as I am mindful in many areas of my life.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Sometimes doubt creeps in and it's exactly in those moments that it's essential to remember what I know to be true and to speak kindly and optimistically to myself. Now, speaking things over yourself can apply to many things opportunities, looks, feelings about situations and scenarios. The list is not exclusive and it can be exhaustive, but today's message is a reminder to be kind to yourself, speak kindly to yourself and be optimistic about how good it can get, and to have some self-compassion. When negative thoughts come in or the urge to speak anything negative over yourself creeps up, it's our job to remember our heart posture and that our desire for great outcomes should always outweigh any eagerness to dwell on the worst case scenario, as corny as some of us may feel doing them. This is exactly where positive affirmations come in. I am capable, I am deserving, I am worthy, it is possible for me. In my example, I will be accepted into the scholarship program because I am good enough and I am an excellent choice.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So, friend, can we commit to the best possible outcome and be mindful of how we speak over ourselves and our circumstances? The answer is yes. Yes, we can. Now, friend, in what ways are you speaking more kindly to yourself and over yourself in this season? Let me know in a text to the show, in a five-star review or in a comment on Spotify? Thank you so much for tuning in to another short but sweet episode. Thank you for lending me your time, your energy and your ears, and I appreciate you for being here. The next episode will be our season finale, but don't worry, I am plotting, planning and scheming to bring you a great new season in the new year. So don't go anywhere and keep following the show. Have a great rest of your day or night and I'll catch you on the next episode. Bye.
